Strange - I think meeting in homes is a lot easier (and a lot more effective) than trying to schedule large church events.

I'm not sure I get where that guy was coming from. I totally agree with your post.

Bill, I think the main challenge I kept hearing was childcare or even just interruptions from kids in general (and even pets).

I couldn't speak from experience there, because we don't have kids in our HomeGroup but I know other churches/groups have found ways to deal with those issues.

The other main point stressed by the mega-pastor was the quality control of teaching/teachers, but I think that issue exists in on-campus classes too.

Jesus was a disciple maker. Used small and large groups. Is there too much consumerism in our churches today?

Heh - Cooper!

And the answer isn't to limit the number of teachers, but to shepherd and mentor up and coming teachers and find them places to serve. My opinion . . .

I totally agree. Life on life community is worth fighting to the death for, and it's so sad that many churches don't pursue this.

Groups are the lifeblood of our church. We actually do mainly single gender groups (so parents take turns watching kids) and it's been great so far.

Not easy, but so worth it. Thanks for a great post.

I think that we reflect Jesus in the small thngis we do for sure! Many times the small thngis are what others dont want to do or cannot do themselves and add up to pretty big thngis in actuality. It is certainly not always easy to do, it gets tiresome and sometimes we feel we don't want to do one more small thing! Sometimes I notice I do all the small thngis and then a big thing comes along and someone else gets all the recognition from it. Does not seem fair. In all actuality though all the small thngis leave very big lastin impressions on our family! I see it in the way they treat each other, the way they help each other and the way they speak to each other. I see it in the small ways they come together now also. So, I am very thankful that the small thngis are getting done I hope that they cannot only see Jesus in the big thngis but also in the small thngis daily. I can sure see Him in the small thngis that my teenagers now do also. I am very thankful!
